New Criminal Code generates resignation of doctors
The government’s decision to keep in the Criminal Code (COIP) the Article 146 which states the culpable homicide for medical malpractice has generated a massive resignation of doctors in different hospitals.
As confirmed by Patricio Guerrero, chief of anesthesiology from the hospital Pablo Arturo Suarez in Quito, around 90 doctors presented their resignations yesterday, to the management of the health house.
“In public service, there are no resources, too many shortcomings and shortages of inputs, conditions to which the doctors have accommodated to not affect medical care,” said Guerrero. He does not discard that the doctors who resigned continue their work in private clinics.
For its part, the College of Physicians of Pichincha was scheduled to meet last night to discuss actions in other hospitals.
