New Ecuadorian Army Commander
Following the surprise resignation of the army chief, Gen. Marco Vera Rios, the Ecuadorian president, Rafael Correa, chose as his replacement the Gen. Jorge Pena Cobenam from the slate that was submitted and was also made by Luis Garzon and Fabian Narvaez.
When the note was closed there was still no statement of the defense ministry on the decision made by the General Commander of the Land Forces, which means his order of availability, but as noted by different media, it is speculated that the reason for his departure would have been due to the promotion of three coronels a general of three colonels to generals by the Council of Generals, because it did not meet the minimum requirements, and thus such option was denied.
The colonels to be promoted are: Nicholas Gortaire, Jose Luis Castillo and Oswaldo Moreno, received negative feedback by the Council last July, however, they appealed the decision and now will go to the next higher grade of general.
