New Judge and Demands for Case El Universo

The Second Criminal Chamber of Guayas has officially suspended judge Eduardo Guerrero Mortola for 30 days. The notification came from a resolution of the Judicial Council of Transition (JCT). To fill the position left by Guerrero, judge Stevie Gamboa Balladares was chosen to replace him.

The date of the hearing was set on August 25 at 9:00 however; President Correa did not agree with the date. Yesterday Alembert and Gutemberg Vera, Correa’s lawyers requested a delay of the hearing. The reason for this request is because that is the date when the president returns from his vacations in Belgium.

The accusing party also requested to held the new hearing in a different place. The current courtroom is located in Doctor Tomas Valdivieso Alba, in the sixth floor of the Justice Court of Guayas. Correa’s attorneys proposed the auditorium of the Guayas Judicial Council, since that is were the first hearing took place and it is more safe and comfortable. (AV)
