New statistical indicator will measure poverty every year

Sabine Alkire, from  Oxford University, who developed the methodology of the Multidimensional Poverty Index (WPI) – tells the story in his presentation of indicator, which took place in the auditorium of the Ministry of Planning and Development (Senplades).

The IPM contains four dimensions: education; work and social security; health, water and food; housing and healthy environment, and twelve indicators (see chart).

This indicator explains Jose Rosero, director of the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC), complements the poverty measurement by income and consumption is currently done, “showing not only one side but twelve faces of poverty”. (I)
