Noboa sends urgent law to recover assets of illegal origin
The legislative initiative signed by the president of the country, Daniel Noboa, due to its urgency in economic matters, must be debated by the Legislature within a maximum period of thirty days.
According to a statement released by the Communication Secretariat of the Presidency, the project offers proposals to “facilitate the extinction of ownership of assets of illicit origin in favor of the State” , as well as “dismantle financial structures of organized crime.”
The law also seeks to prevent the obtaining of illicit resources through public procurement, as well as expedite procedures in this field in emerging cases.
He gave as an example the current situation in Ecuador, subject to an emergency situation in the field of internal security due to violent actions on a national scale related to transnational organized crime gangs.
The project would allow “optimizing the acquisition processes of goods, works and services related to security, ensuring an effective and immediate state response,” the source stressed.
Reforms that improve public procurement “have a direct impact not only on the fight against corruption, but also in relation to savings and austerity in public spending for correct and efficient execution of public resources,” he added.
“It is necessary to combat organized crime in all spaces where they can obtain resources for their criminal activities,” stressed the Ecuadorian Presidency. EFE
