President Daniel Noboa received the Staff of Command in an indigenous ceremony in Otavalo, where he took the opportunity to refer to his government policy, within the framework of national and international political tension, following the arrest of former vice president Jorge Glas.
“I am sitting here because the vast majority of Ecuador decided. With that same principle, I will never allow a small group of people to impose themselves as the majority. Ecuador’s agenda is imposed by the majority, not a small group of lax people,” he said.
Noboa has been criticized by political sectors, mainly by the Citizen Revolution bench, which requested his resignation after Glas’ arrest during a military raid on the Mexican embassy in Quito, where he was taking refuge.
The international community also rejected the government’s actions. Through letters, the governments of Colombia, Peru, Bolivia, Venezuela, Honduras, Argentina, among others, showed their concern about this fact.
“Command and power are given by the Ecuadorian people, I am a vehicle of that,” said Daniel Noboa during his speech. He also made a publication on his Instagram account, where he highlighted the importance of having received the Baton of Command.
