NY Police Clear Zuccotti Park of Protesters
NY Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg on Tuesday defended his decision to clear the park in Lower Manhattan that was the birthplace of the Occupy Wall Street Movement, saying “health and safety conditions became intolerable” in the park where the protesters had camped out for nearly two months.
The New York Police eviction this morning the outraged Camp based in Zuccotti Park in the City’s Financial Center. The camp of the Occupy Wall Street Movement has been installed in a small park near the New York Stock Exchange building with some 200 people living there since September 17.
Dozens of agents, heavily equipped, came to the place at 1:00 AM GMT, they gave 20 minutes to the campers to clear the place peacefully. Immediately the agents began dismantling tents.
Many protesters have obeyed the orders of the security forces. Those who have been reluctant to leave the settlement have been arrested.
