Obama Visits George Clooney and Friends: Raises Record $15 million
U.S. President Barack Obama added to his campaign coffers about $ 15 million last night during a gala dinner organized by actor George Clooney, which was applauded for his support to gay marriage.
“We raised a lot of money because everybody loves George. People like me, but they love him,” the president joked before about 150 supporters of the Democratic Party gathered at the home of the Hollywood star and an icon of liberal causes.
The event which was called “Starmageddon”, held in Clooney’s luxurious mansion in Studio City, north of Los Angeles, will fatten up $ 15 million to Obama’s coffers six months before the election, a record in the history of Americans election campaigns.
Actors Jack Black, Billy Crystal, Robert Downey Jr., Salma Hayek, Barbra Streisand and Tobey Maguire were among the artists that attended the event
Each guest paid $ 40 000 to enter the exclusive evening, the latest in a series of events to support the expensive millionaires electoral machinery.
For the less wealthy supporters, the Obama campaign did a drawing for tickets online, in which for just three dollars people could have a chance to sit at the table next to the host and the honoree. (FO)
