Officials and Opposition Against Correa’s Electoral Veto

The document about the prohibition to the media to make news of the presidential pre-candidates during the electoral process, including the partial veto of the President to the Democracy Code did not received any political support.

Ecuadorian president Rafael Correa presented a document which prohibits the national media to make news of presidential pre-candidates during the electoral process, “The media will abstain of making direct or indirect promotion be it through news, specials, or any kind of message, that could incite favor or negativity to a determined candidate, postulate, options, electoral preferences or political thesis.”

Members of Alianza PAIS saw that this electoral veto would seriously harm the freedom of speech, for that reason PAIS informed yesterday the there won’t be any voting for such proposal.

At the same time, the opposition, rejected the proposal of the government y believes that it looks a way to shun any opportunity for candidates to expose to the media their work plans. (AV)
