Opposition groups ask the OAS to monitor the elections
The Social Christian party (PSC) and the Patriotic Society party (SP), and the movements CREO, SUMA, Gente, Democracia Si, and Podemos, sent delegates to the Organization of American States (OAS), and on Thursday requested Secretary General Luis Almagro that this regional entity participates in the tests, audits and controls of the eight electoral processes in Ecuador.
These opposition groups make up the so-called National Agreement for the Electoral Transparency and try that the OAS “recommends to the National Electoral Council (CNE) the implementation of the system of scrutiny and publication of results” applied by the American organization, because they believe that there is no guarantee of a transparent electoral process in 2017, according to a CREO statement.
Cesar Monge, Auki Tituaña, Cesar Rodriguez, Henry Cucalon and Gilmar Gutierrez were among the delegates who went to Washington for the meeting with the OAS.
