Opposition Requested Rapporteur for Media Bill Debate
Ecuadorian opposition parties requested the presence of Catalina Botero, a special rapporteur of the Interamerican Commission on Human Rights for freedom of expression, for the debate regarding the Communication Law in process.
Legislators Cesar Montufar, Jimmi Pinoargote, Cinthya Viteri, and Lourdes Tiban addressed the president of the National Assembly, Fernando Cordero with a letter inviting the spokeswoman.
Botero will discuss several topics like the Media Regulation Council, the regulation of national broadcasts and government publicity. Mauro Andino, president of the Ocassional Media Commission, expressed his disposition to welcome the spokeswoman.
Montufar pointed out that it would not be right to abandon this process because it would mean to leave everything in the president’s hands.
