Organic products, from the farm to the door

To facilitate the purchase of the basket, it can be ordered through the company’s website or through an application. Since the beginning of the project, two weeks ago, more than five thousand baskets have been sold, a figure with which the entity expects to keep week after week, and with which they expect to add another six thousand farmers to the project.

In addition to the sum of customers, AgroKawsay also hopes to serve as a pilot experience for other cities in the country. “We want other prefectures to join this initiative that creates employment and drives healthy consumption.”

And they are not wrong. Globally, the cultivation of chemical-free products accounts for nearly ninety billion dollars annually.

In the country, this item is also increasing, with 564 organic products, including fresh and processed products, registered with the Fito and Zoosanitary Regulation and Control Agency . Among these there are butters, cheeses, milks, yogurts, soaps among others. Its sale is carried out mainly through social networks, as in places where only this type of product is offered.

In Guayaquil there are six stores of this type, in Quito more than double.

Al Peso is one of them . Located in the MBC building of the Los Olivos citadel, the business, which opened its doors eight months ago, specializes in the ‘zero waste’ trend and sells everything in bulk. Mónica Torres and Fernando Pozo, owners of the establishment indicate that their objective was to bet on a venture that “would contribute to a better society”.

For customers, the attraction is not only to acquire healthy food, but to reduce the costs of its consumption. “Buying in bulk is a great benefit, and it comes out much cheaper. For example, a case of 300 grams of nuts can cost $ 6 in a supermarket , buying here that same amount comes to you at $ 3.64 ”.

In La María , another of the businesses where organic premiums, the freshness of products is what attracts consumers. Among them is Jenny Marcillo, 33. “There are things, like coconut milk or oil, that are more expensive, but I know that what I am taking is fresh and free of GM and pesticides,” he explained.

This business, like others, is also beginning to implement home delivery platforms to bring its customers closer to chemical-free products .
