Peace Dialogues in Cuba Began with FARC’s Ceasefire Announcement
The peace dialogue in La Habana, Cuba, between the Colombian government delegation and FARC began with the unilateral ceasefire on behalf the guerrilla to “strengthen a prosperous climate for the necessary understanding” in the negotiation that has the purpose of ending the armed conflict in Colombia.
This is the first ceasefire in 10 years by the rebels. The guerrilla group assured that this surprise decision is to facilitate the peace dialogue. FARC managers ordered their units the ceasefire of offensive military operations and sabotage acts in all the country from November 20 to January 20.
Meanwhile the Colombian minister of the Defence, Juan Carlos Pinzon, assured that the government security forces would continue with their military operations in the country. Pinzon stated “it’s a constitutional duty of the Colombian public force to chase all those criminals.”
