“People don’t vote for me because of my moustache”, Jaime Nebot
In an interview carried out by El Universo, published in today’s edition, Jaime Nebot, Mayor of Guayaquil, stated that “people vote for what I do and for what I don’t do,” he asked the journalist “Do you believe that people vote for me because of my moustache?”
Nebot addressed several subjects, such as the continuity of his work as Mayor and pointed out the importance of efficiency and honesty. That’s why he says “with me or without me this has to go on and maybe that’s the biggest legacy that Leon Febres-Cordero and I have left to Guayaquil.”
On the other hand, he was clear to assure that Madera de Guerrero, the political movement he leads, as for now, won’t support any presidential candidate, because, for him, the most important thing is to defend and promote the principles of democracy, freedom, security, autonomy and less taxes. He goes ahead of himself and ask the people not to speculate with this decision; the lack of support to a candidate doesn’t mean “benefit the Government” and asks “The Government shares this thesis? it seems they doesn’t. How can there be an agreement between someone that advocates A with someone that advocates Z?”
Jaime Nebot explained that he is not a sectarian person and for that, in spite that he is convinced “it was a wrong man” he authorized the placing of the bust of Che Guevara in Cerro Santa Ana, near the obelisk that honours Leon Febres-Cordero, former president of Ecuador and former Mayor of Guayaquil, whose monument, according to Nebot, will be place soon.
