Ecuadornews:

Technology has allowed the development of user-friendly applications such as Facebook, What’s App, Snap Chat, Instagram, Twitter.

However, several digital organizations warn of the misuse of social networks. These have been used as a platform to affect Internet users. The cases are frequent in minors, who still do not have a sound judgment to interact in social networks. “Education at an early age and communication are the key to children and teenagers using social networks smartly,” explained Christian Espinosa, director of Cobertura Digital.com.

Therefore, this year he launched the campaign called ‘Responsible Management of Social Networks,’ which is disseminated with the hashtag #PiensaAntesDePublicar (#ThinkBeforePosting), to create awareness in the use of social networks. Espinosa acknowledged that it is difficult to control over our children since they now handle not only computers but smartphones.

In his lecture, the journalist acknowledged that it is very common for young people to start a friendship with people under a false profile. The specialist recommended the ‘Reverse Image Search’ tool, which can be found on Google, to look for the origin of the profile picture.

Espinosa warned of another of the most dangerous practices that happen in the networks: ‘grooming’ It starts when an adult reaches a minor with a false profile and gains the victim’s trust to create an emotional connection and even commit sexual abuse. The expert mentioned the case of Micaela Ortega, a 12-year-old Argentine girl who was killed in 2016. Her killer deceived her by contacting her with a false identity on Facebook. (I)
