Plan for the port in Posorja is not clear

Port in Posorja remains uncertain
The plan to create a deep water port in the parish of Posorja has not been clarified in the recent pronouncements of the authorities who are waiting for a deal with issues such as the 11 meter dredging of the access channel to the port of Guayaquil.
On Tuesday, the regime leader, Rafael Correa, said he reiterated “the support of the National Government to dredge the entrance channel to the port of Guayaquil to 11 meters.”
However, he pointed out that the issue of deepwater port, “must be made logically, (…), the obvious. Make a deep water port, where the natural draft is 15 meters,” but did not give a specific location.
According to the Mobility Strategic Plan 2013-2037, developed by the company Ineco as request of the Ministry of Transport and Public Works, the port would be between General Villamil and Chanduy. The government’s plan assumes that the new port could move 3 million TEUs (20-foot containers), which means twice the current capacity handled by the port of Guayaquil.
At this the Mayor Jaime Nebot keeps questioning what will happen to the project initiated by ALIMPORT in Posorja, which was overturned. Last Wednesday, Nebot said in a radio broadcast that there are still outstanding issues, as if “the deepwater port Posorja will continue or not.”
