Police leadership rejects accusation
Fourteen generals of the Police rejected yesterday in a statement an attempt to “undermine the reputation of the institution” by the relatives of the defendants for allegedly being part of a network that irregularly sold more than 1,300 promotions.
In the statement, the institution directly “refutes” the statements made Monday morning in an interview with Teleamazonas by Maritza Briones, wife of former commander of Police Fausto T., who is accused by the Attorney General´s office as one of the two alleged ringleaders of the network.
Briones assured that there is no single evidence against her husband and she denounced they have been threatened by active officers, who, according to her, would be obeying orders from authorities of the Interior Ministry.
She also criticized the prosecutor of the case Thannia Moreno, for allegedly filing informative reports as evidence to involve Fausto T. In addition, according to Briones, the list of 1,317 promotions, includes the processing of renowned officials, who according to her, do not even know they are being associated with an irregularity.
In the police statement she supports the decision of Interior Minister Jose Serrano, and Deputy Minister of Security of denouncing this case in July 2015.
