Preliminary list for general safeguard application is ready

Minister of Industries Ramiro Gonzalez said yesterday that the preliminary list of products on which the safeguard will be applied by balance of payments would be completed.

Authorities of the production Front and President Rafael Correa said that in late February multilateral measures would be applied, which, according to the Minister, is a safeguard for BOP, a system that was implemented in 2009.

The Government explained it has worked in the recent weeks in the list that is currently being reviewed.

Authorities still prefer not to disclose the number of tariffs that are on the list but clarified that a complete overhaul of raw materials, fuel and capital goods was made to determine which of them will be excluded, in order not to affect the national production.

Diego Aulestia shall sign the resolution on safeguards. Yesterday, the official held meetings in Quito with his advisers and Deputy Minister Genaro Baldeón.
