The Catalan President, Artur Mas, is expected to sign on Saturday the decreed by which he will convene the independence referendum of Catalonia next November 9th, Spanish media reported.
Mas will sign the decree in the Palau de la Generalitat de Barcelona (seat of the Barcelona government), a week after the Catalan parliament approved by a large majority a consultations law to give legal framework to the referendum.
According to parliamentary sources quoted by Spanish media, Mas invited the leaders of the political parties that support the sovereignist query.
The government of Mariano Rajoy has prepared the resources it expects to submit against the referendum before the Constitutional Tribunal.
Predictably the tribunal will suspend the law, which according to the government is contrary to the Constitution, thus invalidating the convocation.
