Productive Chambers ask for the definition of the issue regarding the dredging of the channel of the port of Guayaquil
Almost a month after the Ecuadorian Government stated the need to specialize the port terminal of Guayaquil for tourism and cabotage and the acceptance of the challenge by Mayor Jaime Nebot, parameters have not yet been established, but differing views on the issue have been collected.
For example, several representatives of the productive sector of the city believe that it is necessary that the port authority of Guayaquil (APG) and the municipality, take decisions on the subject of the dredging of the channel of access to the port Simón Bolívar.
The President of the Chamber of Commerce of Guayaquil, Eduardo Peña, who participated in the meeting with the APG, indicates that after that meeting he thought that the subject was going to be resolved expeditiously, by both the municipality and the port authority, but “it is a pity that the port authority has this bad position regarding the need to dredge the channel”.
For his part, Nebot, yesterday, recalled that last August 14 President Rafael Correa spoke of an agreement. “… Nebot accept to dredge the port!…” I’m already giving instructions to finalize the agreement, and he can manage the collection of port charges to finance the dredging… “, pointed out.”
Despite this, in an advertisement published last Sunday in the media, the APG indicated that “within the framework of the aforementioned meeting, no agreement was met (…)”.
However, yesterday, Minister of transport and public works, Ma. De los Angeles Duarte, said in an interview with Gamatv that there is no conflict, as they have given the green light to the offer of Nebot of dredging the channel.
About studies, Duarte said that she will convene, on 6 September, a public tender to update the information that exists.
