Proof of life of the El Comercio newspaper team kidnapped has been diffused
Ecuadornews:
Colombia’s RCN channel unveiled the first proof of life of the journalist, photographer and host of El Comercio newspaper, kidnapped by FARC dissidents on the northern border.
In the 22 seconds video in which Paúl Rivas, Javier Ortega and Efraín Segarra appear chained, the hostages indicate what would be the conditions demanded by their captors for their release.
“Mr. President Lenin Moreno, in your hands are our lives, what they want is the exchange of their three detainees in Ecuador and the annulment of the agreement that Ecuador and Colombia have to end terrorism.”
In addition, this proof of life had a second part where the news team exposes more warnings: “The kidnappings of civilians are not going to stop, the attacks in Ecuadorian territory will not stop, as long as the government of Lenin Moreno does not annul this agreement who signed with Colombia. ”
Of the three, only one goes to the camera and gives the message, insisting that “this war does not belong to the civilians or the Ecuadorian military.”
The team was kidnapped on March 26, while they were doing a report on the living conditions of the inhabitants of the area.
The national government rejects the broadcast
Through a statement, the government reported its “deep discomfort” by the mediatization of the video of the three kidnapped and ensures that as the goal is the welfare of citizens and their families, “the management of information has been and will continue to be absolutely responsible. ”
The authorities blame these facts on dissident FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia) led by the Ecuadorian alias ‘Guacho’, however, from Colombia claim not to know where the plagiarized are.
President Lenin Moreno told the media that “names of generals” were consulted, so that an Advisory Council of the Presidency would be formed and face this situation. A meeting with the possible members of this council takes place from noon. “We are vigilant so that Ecuadorian security does not deteriorate,” the president said.
The reaction of a relative
Cristian Segarra, son of Efraín Segarra, the designated driver for this coverage that ended in kidnapping, said before entering the security meeting at El ECU 911 that the video circulating on networks is new and they had not seen it before.
He also mentioned that his demands are maintained in betting on his early release and especially in “demanding the Colombian State to be involved and to take responsibility that it should have taken”
Meanwhile, relatives of the abductees continue to hold sit-ins in the center of Quito, every night at 7:00 pm to demand their release.
In addition, similar vigils have been called in Guayaquil, also in the San Francisco Plaza of the city, starting at 7:00 p.m. (I)
