Jorge Albán, Deputy Mayor of the capital, was in charge of receiving the Award, he attributed it to a process and named the prior mentions obtained by Quito like being in the cover of National Geographic magazine.
“It has an enormous practical effect and is that the city will be – from now on– in front of thousands or hundreds of thousands of mentions as a tourist destination”, said on Monday the Mayor of Quito, Augusto Barrera, who also stressed that the capital is in the range of South America’s safest cities.
The Council is currently planning the construction of a Convention Center at the old airport, since it is considered as a niche that has not been exploited, and hopes to attract with that work between 2.000 and 4.000 tourists for each event.
