Quito aims to promote tourism to maximize the impact of the “Awards”

Posted On 23 Jul 2013

Last Saturday Quito obtained in Peru the World Travel Award 2013, a recognition which is considered as the Awards for tourism, for that, the municipality aims to consolidate the policy of tourist promotion of the Ecuadorian capital.

Jorge Albán, Deputy Mayor of the capital, was in charge of receiving the Award, he attributed it to a process and named the prior mentions obtained by Quito like being in  the cover of National Geographic magazine.

“It has an enormous practical effect and is that the city will be – from now on– in front of thousands or hundreds of thousands of mentions as a tourist destination”, said on Monday the Mayor of Quito, Augusto Barrera, who also stressed that the capital is in the range of South America’s safest cities.

The Council is currently planning the construction of a Convention Center at the old airport, since it is considered as a niche that has not been exploited, and hopes to attract with that work between 2.000 and 4.000 tourists for each event.

Eduardo Dousdebés, Secretary of productive development, stated that there are 4 real estate projects with an investment of more than $90 million, which is expected to be built at the old airport, one in the valleys and two in the city.
