Rafael Correa posed candidate’s age modification for Ecuador’s Presidency
The ruling party will seek to modify one of the requirements raised by the Constitution to run for the Presidency of the Republic: the age.
“Those are the things we are reviewing, and if it is not necessary to lower the age. What sense has (being) 35 years in the modern world?. A person of 32 years has completed his/her academic career, may have a postgraduate, having much experience, Why to exempt younger people of that opportunity?. This is one of the reforms, constitutional amendments that are also discussed in the Alianza PAIS (AP) block, to lower the minimum age to be president or vice president from 35 to 32 years”, said President Rafael Correa yesterday in a a radio interview in Napo.
As an example, Correa appointed the President of the Assembly, Gabriela Rivadeneira of 33 years.
According to the Article 142 of the Constitution, to aspire to this position, the candidate shall be Ecuadorian by birth, be at least 35 years of age at the date of registration of the candidacy, be in possession of their political rights and does not fall within any of the disqualifications or prohibitions in the Constitution.
