Posted On 10 Jul 2012
The former Minister of Sports Raul Carrion and two ex-partners were summoned to trial for the crime of peculation, allegedly committed in 2008.
The prosecution charged the accused with the crime of embezzlement of public funds, by subdividing overpriced contracts for the construction of sports venues.
The decision was taken yesterday by the judge of the criminal division of the National Court of Justice (CNJ for its spanish acronym), Gladys Teran, in accepting the prosecution’s request to convene the trial to Carrion, Fernando Moreno Viana (fugitive) and Patricio Sanchez .
As an additional precautionary measure, Teran ordered the seizure of assets up to $ 100,000 for each of those called to trial. (MZ)
