Reactions of an employer to the reduction in the fuel subsidy
President Rafael Correa said Friday that the measure to eliminate subsidies to the industrial sector was taken embracing the suggestion of the Ecuadorian Business Committee (CEE for its Spanish acronym) and the decree also mentions the Chamber of Commerce of Quito (CCQ).
Roberto Aspiazu, director of the CEE, said that “the government must assume its political responsibility,” but the corporate sector has always taken the view that subsidies must be rationalized. He said the measure was seen coming due to the intensive level of public spending. He considered it is an erroneous approach to cut a bias on revanchism against a sector, because if the industry is affected the final consumer will see the consequences in that cost.
Patricio Alarcón, president of the CCQ, considers that the Government takes the measure, no at the suggestion of the Chamber but because it is necessary given the need for cuts.
