Reactions on “El Universo” were Compiled by Ecuadorian Newspapers

On July 20th the freedom of expression in Ecuador received a hard blow with the ruling against the former editor of Opinion and three executives of the national Newspaper El Universo. Local and global voices have criticized a penalty that, if ratified, will create a dangerous precedent not only at home but throughout the region.

Today, Ecuadorian newspapers such as El Comercio, Hoy, El Universo, Expreso published as part of their front pages a compilation of various national and international reactions that were generated by Diario El Universo case.

The reactions of 27 international institutions can be read in the compilation of opinions: HumanRights Watch, Fundamedios, Red Latina para la Democracia, El Comité para la protección de periodistas, Reporteros Sin Fronteras, among others.
