Report on YASunidos’ challenge is ready

The legal coordination of the National Electoral Council (CNE for its Spanish acronym) has prepared a report on the challenge made by the environmental group YASunidos regarding the results obtained after the signature verification process carried out to call a referendum that could prevent the oil exploration in a part of the Yasuni National Park.

The report shall be known and approved by the plenary of the CNE, for which a meeting is expected. The deadline for the CNE to pronounce on the matter expires on June 14, so on Wednesday the document passed to councilors before entering the plenary.

YASunidos challenged the administrative act which is the resolution of CNE taken on last May 8, where the entity concluded that the environmental group did not meet enough signatures to call a referendum (about 600,000). For this, the environmental group ensures the CNE committed fraud and altered several forms where signatures were collected.
