Retirees debt reaches $ 1,123 million

Posted On 29 Jun 2017

Ecuadornews:

The Government owes about $ 1,123 million to retirees from the public sector. This problem has been recursive since 2010 and intensified in 2015, said Labor Minister Raul Ledesma yesterday.
The figure includes the amount owed for officially admitted files that would reach $ 808 million and about $ 315 million more that have already been reported by the ministries.
De la Torre said that these are “tremendously high” amounts the Government has to pay, “that is not the best time for the Treasury.” He explained that the previous government of Rafael Correa did not budge these funds.
Although he did not give clues on the possible forms of payment for the rest of the retirees, said that they will seek for formulas to pay that debt in the long term. (I)
