Saudi princess arrested for enslaving a house maid
Farrah Emami, spokesperson for the Orange County Prosecutor’s Office, told to the AFP news agency that Meshael Alayban, a Saudi princess, was accused of trafficking of persons and to have a henyan house maid as slave, for that reason she was arrested and must pay a bail of $ 5 million.
After she cancels the bail, the 42 year old Princess will have to use a GPS so the authorities can monitor her whereabouts, so she does not leave the County.
The house maid was forced to work 16 hours a day, and seven days a week for a salary of $ 220 per month, in a Palace in Saudi Arabia, and then in an apartment located in Irvine (a town in Orange County), where the Princess take vacations with her family.
The woman of 30 years old, of whom the identity is not known, escaped last Tuesday and boarded a bus, where one of the passengers realized she was nervous and helped her to contact the police.
Emami said that Alayban, is one of the six wives of Prince Abdulrahman bin Nasser bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, great-grandson of King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia.
Yesterday a court in the town of Santa Ana in Orange County decreed that the formal reading of the charges of Alayban will take place on July 29, and in the case of being found guilty, she can be sentenced to a maximum of 12 years in prison.
