Schools will have a safety plan in Ecuador
An integral safety plan will be implemented in the schools of the country, announced yesterday the Minister of Education, Augusto Espinosa. The pilot project will be implemented in the Vicente Rocafuerte School in Guayaquil and Tecnico School in Quito.
The initiative seeks that educational institutions can respond to situations that endanger students, teachers and the infrastructure.
The process will include a safety study first, then a plan for risk reduction and a response protocol will be determined. Risk management training for teachers and students is also envisaged.
“I would say that very few schools have an integrated view of security and few have established a safety plan,” Espinosa said, explaining that the risk not only represents an earthquake or a volcanic eruption, but a robbery or the presence of microtraficantes outside the school.
The operational plan is intended to become active from September 2016.
