First Step to Assange’s Extradition has been given

London‘s Metropolitan Police, Scotland Yard, issued a statement to Assange, who is a refugee in the Ecuadorian Embassy, indicating that he must go to a city police station.

If Assange does not show before the agents on the indicated date, it will mean a “second violation of the conditions of his probation.” The first violation of his probation occurred on June 19 when he took refuge in the Embassy of Ecuador in London to avoid extradition to Sweden.

The Scotland Yard source said today that the delivery of a subpoena “is part of standard protocol in extradition proceedings,” a step towards formalizing the delivery.

Assange, 40 years, is meanwhile waiting to see if the Ecuadorian government grants the political asylum he has requested to avoid being handed over to the Swedish authorities. (MZ)
