The decision of the Board of the Ecuadorian Institute of Social Security (IESS), to redistribute the incomes of the Pension Fund to settle the deficit in health insurance, opens new debates. The resolution has raised concerns in various sectors of retirees, workers, builders and assembly members.

With posters and a megaphone, a group of 30 retirees gathered yesterday (November 23) at the Plaza Grande to reject the decision of the Board of IESS, of transferring resources from the Pension Fund to the Health Fund. In the banners legends like “The IESS belongs to the affiliates not to the government,” “Respect pension funds” and “The rights are inalienable,” could be read.

The pensioners, who belong to the Assembly of Retirees and the Coordinator of Organizations of Senior Citizens of Ecuador (Corjupe), ask the Council of the IESS to verify the final decision on the grounds that it can negatively impact the pension fund.
