Shakira Will Be Named Person of the Year on the Latin Grammys
“The Latin Recording Academy and its Board are able to recognize the talent of Shakira, whose artistic integrity is only matched by her commitment and dedication to her work and social activities, selflessly helping those in need” said Gabriel Abaroa Jr, president of the Academy, in a statement.
Abaroa said it is a pleasure “to honor the woman whose generosity has benefited a good number of people, mostly children, whose influence is evident around the world, whether in the personal and musically.”
It is “a real honor to be in the company of some of the great artists and legends of Latin music,” said the artist. The academy said a large percentage of the profits from this dinner will benefit the Pies Descalzos Foundation, created by Shakira, as well as education programs of The Latin Recording Academy.
