Shooting in Los Angeles leaves one dead and seven injured
The attack took place at noon yesterday at the airport when a man pulled a semiautomatic rifle from a bag and made his way while shooting to reach a checkpoint at Los Angeles International Airport, killing a safety federal employee and wounding seven people in an attack that disrupted flights across the country, said authorities.
The alleged gunman, identified as Paul Ciancia, 23, from Pennsville, New Jersey and that apparently was living in Los Angeles, was wounded in an exchange of gunfire with the police and taken into custody.
The attack occurred in the third busiest airport in the country caused the terrified travellers to seek for refuge and, according to an official air hub, affected 746 flights throughout the U.S., because they were grounded in Los Angeles or because they were not allowed to leave from other airports.
Thousands of passengers were Latin American, including hundreds of Ecuadorians, who wanted to travel to their home countries for several reasons, but mainly to attend the celebration of The Day of the Death, date which is very important to latin people.
