Forty-five shrimp producers, grouped in the Association of Shrimp Producers Jorge Kayser (APROCAM), expect to finalize negotiations with foreign companies to export their shrimp directly to markets in the United States, China and other countries.
Shrimp producers count on 1,200 hectares, the total production is 3,500 pounds per hectare, said Jorge Chavez, president of APROCAM.
“We are seeking to open new markets to export shrimp (…) directly, up until recently we sold it to intermediaries and local exporters,” said Chavez.
Currently, negotiations are focused on conversations with shrimp processors in Santa Rosa that have the required certification by the interested companies.
