SIP calls on Ecuador and Venezuela to respect the freedom of expression
Posted On 22 Oct 2014
The Inter American Press Association (IAPA) demanded the governments of Ecuador and Venezuela to respect the freedom of expression at the end of the 70th General Assembly of the organization which was held in Santiago de Chile.
In the case of Ecuador, the IAPA demanded the repeal of the Communications Law, in force since last year, because “it restricts thefreedom of speech” through the “content control” on independent media, as observed.
In reference to Venezuela, the Miami-based organization, denounced “the accelerated dismantling of the free and independent press,” a situation that is exacerbated with the “loss of democratic freedoms and the entrenchment of a regime of terror,” it states.
