Southern Cone shows differences with Ecuador’s plan for the IACHR
The Southern Cone countries seek to maintain the precautionary measures taken by the Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), said yesterday the Foreign Minister, Ricardo Patino, but refused to list them for reasons of diplomatic respect.
After a day of being carried out will be held the Conference of the States Parties to the American Convention on Human Rights (ACHR), organized by the government of Ecuador, whose main purpose is to reform the system so that precautionary measures can not be adopted by the Commission, it was learned that it was not accepted.
However, Foreign Minister Patino highlighted that “fundamental steps were taken” to strengthen the Commission, but noted that the document that was created in this regard, according to the press, was made “during lunch“, which meant departing from the traditional diplomatic dynamics of the day, otherwise it would not have achieved anything. Last Monday (March 11), Ricardo Patino and the Ecuadorian president, Rafael Correa, hosts of the event, presented their views on what should be the system reforms of the IACHR.
The Southern Cone is composed of its geographical condition, thus comprises the countries: Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, Argentina and Chile.
