State of Emergency Was Lifted in Ecuador
This Saturday, President Rafael Correa lifted the state of emergency declared yesterday against the risk of tsunami in coastal areas of the country.
The Ecuadorian President stressed that so far preliminary assessments do not show any “serious harm.”
The port of Santa Rosa, in Galapagos, endured waves of high intensity this morning, which caused damage to 550 fishing boats.
Some of the small boats were completely destroyed, while others sustained minor damage.
Damages have been material only. So far no casualties have been reported by the strong surge that began at about 01:00 today.
The Ecuadorian navy, through the Naval Oceanographic Institute (INOC) reported that the risk of tsunami warning has declined since the height of sea level is falling.
