Storm Emily sets Maximum Alert in Three Countries
Haitians authorities imposed a red alert in the whole territory due to the storm Emily proximity to the country and several citizens had to evacuate risk zones. The storm was supposed to reach the Haitian coasts last night, this represents a great risk to the country which is already weakened by the seism of last January 2010.
The red alert has also been declared in six provinces of Dominican Republic, it also set a preventive surveillance due to the passing of tropical storm Emily. A yellow alert has also been set, since it applies to imminent risks in the provinces of Santo Domingo and San Jose de Ocoas in the south of the country, La Altagracia, La Romana, San Pedro in the east and Independencia in the southeast.
The Centre of Emergency Operations (COE) also set green alert or partial dangers in the 17 provinces and added that the evacuations are mandatory. The storm Emily has also forced Puerto Rico to declare in a state of emergency. The governor Luis Fortuño asked the population to prepare themselves against the upcoming storm. Meanwhile the strong winds has caused that more than 11,000 homes are without energy. (AV)
