Storms and Tornados Assail Southern USA
The States that are closer to the Atlantic are in alert after the meteorological phenomena affected several counties. In sector of Bertie, North Carolina, the death toll of the victims has increased to 44 due to the strong storms and tornados that for three days assail the south of United States. The National Meteorological Service confirmed this to the CNN North American network.
Several people has perished during the storms, since its powerful winds have torn houses and destroyed vehicles by knocking down trees. Some reports informed that the storms brought down hail the size of baseballs. The state more affected was north Carolina were 23 people have perished, while 15 counties of the western and central part suffered serious damages. States like, Alabama, Arkansas, Virginia, Oklahoma, and Mississippi also have reported casualties and structural damages.
Governor Bev Perdue, declared a state of emergency, after informing that in North Carolina a total of 62 tornados have been registered. The season of tornados occurs from March and July, such storms always claim the lives of 70 people a year.
