Syrian Security Forces Open Fire on Funeral
Today the Syrian security forces opened fire on tens of thousands mourners that went to the funeral of the fallen Kurdish opposition leader. Eyewitnesses reported that during the hostilities two civilians were killed.
In Damascus activists said that security forces also fired on a funeral procession in the suburb of Douma for three people that were killed a day earlier, the attack wounded ten people. However the largest crowd appeared on the streets of Qamishli, where many people marched to mourn Mashaal Tammo, 53, the most charismatic Kurdish opposition figure who was gunned down by masked assailants.
This is attacks belong to a string of targeted killings in Syria, now the funerals are also turning into a massive protest with cries that called on the Syrian president Bashar Al Assad to step down. Other demonstrators demanded the “execution of the president”. (AV)
