Telecommunications bill seeks to amend section on royalties
The Commission of autonomous governments will meet today to continue the treatment of the draft Telecommunications Act.
The legislative commission will be attended today by representatives of the employees of the Superintendency of Telecommunications (Supertel for its Spanish acronym), and the group `Usuarios Digitales.´
Richard Calderon, Assemblyman for Alianza País and President of the commission, said that Section 34 will be discussed, which deals with the new royalties that cell phone companies must contribute to the State, a section that would only affect Claro, which has the 68,07% of market shares.
Calderon noted that the term “royalties is not what is sought with this article,” therefore something more “more consistent” with monopoly control will be written.
The Assemblyman added that it is expected to conclude between this and next week the second draft for the second and final debate and its approval in the plenary of the legislature.
