The army tracks guerrilla bases in Ecuador
Every week, the Army runs up to three insert operations in the jungle. The points are diverse. Only the boundary line of Sucumbios -without including Esmeraldas and Carchi- has 170 kilometers. The military knows that this sector is vulnerable. The Jungle Battalion 56 Tungurahua has even detected break positions of the guerrilla.
Late last month, Defense Minister Ricardo Patino assured that Ecuador “will shield the most of” the border, with the imminent signing of peace talks between the Colombian government and the FARC. There are fears that some guerrilla fighters do not accept the process and form criminal groups or cross into Ecuadorian soil (I).
