The Brazilian Graziano Promised a “New era” at the Head of the FAO

At a conference in Rome, the new director the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, Jose Graziano da Silva, said that the agency begins a “new era” that fights hunger in the world.
The Brazilian, who was elected on Sunday as the FAO director general with 92 votes against 88 for his opponent, former Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos, is the first Latin American to reach this important position.
“We need to begin an era of organization,” said Graziano, former head of the successful popular plan for the eradication of hunger in Brazil “Fome Zero” (Zero Hunger) and who comes from the state since he was regional representative in America America and deputy director of the FAO since 2006. (FO)
