This afternoon, a fishing vessel collided with the Santay Island bridge, in the south of Guayaquil. According to several witnesses, approximately at 15:40 the “Patricia” vessel crashed against the bridge, causing its plummeting into the river waters.
“The ship could not avoid the impact, perhaps due to the force of the current or a bad maneuver,” said Eduardo Galarza, a witness.
The incident left no casualties, only the shock of those who were crossing the bridge and could run towards the shore and two crew members, who jump onto the water.
The Ecuadorian Navy issued a statement saying that “3 units of the Guayaquil Captaincy are in the area providing the pertinent support and investigating the reasons that caused the incident.” (I)
