The Civil Registry recognized yesterday that the computing change in 2000 altered the birth data of thousands of Ecuadorians.
And that is one of at least three drawbacks that influence the development of the electoral register. Yesterday, officials of the Civil Registry met with delegates from political groups involved in the audit process.
“We have identified a few thousand cases in which, from 2000, the date of birth of some people was altered and it seems as if they are more than 100 years, when they are actually not,” said deputy director of the Civil Registry Claudio Pietro.
