The CNE will review 3 millions of signatures in one month
The one month deadline the National Electoral Council (CNE for its Spanish acronym) has to review the documentation submitted by political organizations that seek to obtain their legal status, in order to participate in the elections of February 19, 2017, starts today. An intense activity was evident yesterday in the offices of the CNE in Quito and in some provincial delegations, where leaders of parties and movements came to deliver the requirements (see the chart), in particular the packages containing support signatures (in the case of movements) and affiliation signatures (in the case of parties). As it was the last day of the deadline, CNE offices worked until 24:00.
Since early in the morning, the CNE Secretariat had the largest attendance of leaders of provincial and national political organizations. Some delivered the documents that were missing, but mostly signatures.
Leopoldo Jara, leader of the Citizens Movement for Change, delivered about 600,000 affiliations; Enrique Villavicencio, spokesman for the National Strategic Alliance Movement, 456,800 ; Wilson Sanchez, of the Adelante Ecuatoriano Adelante party (former PRIAN), 34,600; Wilma Andrade, of the Democratic Left (ID), 8,600; The Social Justice Movement, 39,952; The We can movement, 30 folders; The Now movement, an unknown number of folders , among others. That is, in one day the agency received more than 1.2 million signatures.
On August 19, the CNE expects to present the national and provincial political groups that were qualified to participate in the upcoming electoral process.
