The coffin of John Paul II Will Be Moved To San Sebastián Chapel

Posted On 05 Apr 2011

The coffin of the “Good Pope”, John Paul II will be placed on a bier covered with a white cloth in front of the monumental tomb of St. Peter, in the Vatican Grottoes, where it remains until the morning of May 1st, hours before the start of the beatification ceremony, the Vatican spokesman Federico Lombardi said.

The coffin containing the remains of Pope, who died on April 2nd, 2005 (when he was nearly 85 years old), will not be opened at any time said Lombardi. “The body of John Paul II won’t be shown,” said Lombardi, who explained that no light will see the remains due to the short space of time that has passed since his death.

Once the celebrations are over, the coffin will be moved to the Chapel of San Sebastián, to allow more visits from the ones who wish to venerate the saint.
