The Council of Higher Education officially launched the first package of reforms to the LOES
The document has 15 pages and proposes the inclusion of 9 sections to avoid the profit motive in private universities. This afternoon, July 27, 2016, Rene Ramirez, head of the Higher Education Council (CES) presented this in the Assembly.
He did this at the meeting of the Education Committee. There, he spoke that there is a “legal vacuum” that prevents the CES from controlling possible enrichment motives of private universities. The proposal also bans that universities sign contracts with companies linked to their authorities. The director of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Leonardo Orlando, assured they are investigating five institutions that belong to economic groups.
