The announcement of a new tax reform takes a week and the draft is yet unknown. One of the sectors involved, alcoholic beverages, presented its arguments to prevent that a tax increase reduces its sales.
Liqueurs have had at least five major tax and customs adjustments in the last seven years.
In 2009, the sector felt an impact following a tax adjustment on special consumption (ICE) through a tax reform. Following the adoption of the standard it was determined that the ICE would be calculated in accordance with the number of liters of a drink, multiplied by the alcoholic strength indicated in each bottle. So, at that time, each liter of liquor was levied at US $ 5.
